In the Blink of a Byte

Samsung unveiled its latest flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S24 also referred to as ‘Galaxy AI’.

This time around, they're going all-in on AI features and is predicted to be the first cellphone to truly implement AI in its entirety.

The lineup includes three models: Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and the top-of-the-line Galaxy S24 Ultra, available in four colors—Titanium Violet, Titanium Grey, Titanium Black, and Titanium Yellow.

So far, the application of AI on cellphones mostly 'only' revolves around the photography aspect. For example, improving image processing enhances camera shots in terms of tone, noise reduction, and sharpness.

However, the Galaxy S24 series takes AI even further. It doesn't just focus on processing and editing visual content but also supports daily productivity, from live translate to circle to search.

AI is not new, but the advances we are making are progressing at an exponential pace, leveraging our ever-faster computing power, the explosion of digital data, and the speed of communication infrastructure.

The fact that even relatively new computer technology feels ancient to us now demonstrates how quickly the world has changed. Computers progress swiftly and become such a vital part of our daily lives in such a short period of time that it is easy to forget how new this technology is.

The timeline shows that the first digital computers didn't emerge until about 80 years ago. Since then, artificial intelligence has come a really long way in the following seven decades, and now, it's even better than humans in certain areas.

The capabilities have grown even more in recent years.

Early systems focused on creating images of faces, but these newer ones have added the ability to generate images from text in response to almost any question. Even the most difficult prompts, such as "A Pomeranian sits on the King's throne wearing a crown, two tiger soldiers stand next to the throne," are instantly transformed into lifelike graphics.

Artificial intelligence is no longer a technology of the future; it is here. And one company that is closely associated with the development of this technology is Metrodata Electronics (MTDL).

As a trusted digital technology provider with the most complete business segments and products in Indonesia, MTDL leverages digital business platforms, cloud services, big data & analytics, business applications, hybrid IT infrastructure, IT security, and emerging technologies like the IoT ecosystem and also AI, to assist its clients in adapting and transforming themselves to the digital world.

The company realizes that 'everything is digital, and digital is everything,' which is why, amid the increasing demand for information and communication technology products, MTDL has always focused on successfully expanding its market share, optimizing inventory management, and increasing net profit.

After successfully establishing a partnership with IBM, becoming its official distributor, their new initiative involves the planned formation of a joint venture with a digital transformation company in Vietnam—specifically FPT Information System (FPT IS), which already boasts 30 years of experience in supporting the development of Vietnamese and regional economies.

This effort has progressed to the stage of signing an MoU, outlining the details of the collaboration to become a leading digital transformation solution in Indonesia.

The collaboration between the two leading ICT companies from their respective countries has the potential to span various critical areas, especially in the fields of data science, machine learning, and, most importantly, the development of innovative AI applications. This collaboration aims to boost productivity and expedite progress toward achieving the 'Indonesia Emas 2045' goal.

With a staggering base of over 200 million internet users and more than 370 million cellular connections, Indonesia emerges as a digital powerhouse, presenting fertile ground for technological innovation and digital transformation.

Furthermore, opportunities in cloud infrastructure and AI-related fields are expected to double every five years, projecting a total value reaching USD 1.5 trillion, accounting for 14% of GDP.

This trend provides an opportunity for technology enterprises such as FPT IS and Metrodata (MTDL) to contribute to accelerating economic recovery and create significant growth advantages for businesses.

We believe that as long as information and communication technology continues to be essential, the growth of MTDL will be sustainable. Hence, we maintain a BUY recommendation for MTDL with a DCF-based TP of Rp840, implying a 14.7x 2024F PE, with assumptions of a 13.8% WACC and a 4.8% terminal growth rate.

Looking forward to discussing this in more detail!
